End of an era at Carrigboy NS as
Mr. Joe O'Driscoll Retires
After 22 years of wonderful service to the children of Durrus Mr. O'Driscoll has decided to call it a day on a wonderful career. Joe spent the start of his career in Dublin before moving to Carrigboy in March 1992. Former principal Helen Burke recounted the huge influence he was to have on the school especially in the areas of GAA and drama. There was very little gaelic football being played in the school when Joe arrived and the first entries into Sciath na Scol were not very encouraging but in time the school's fortunes turned and Carrigboy have since won numerous titles including a four in a row in the last number of years. Darren Stock representing the local Muintir Bháire GAA club also thanked Joe for his many years of service to GAA in the area. Mr. O'Driscoll's Christmas Concerts have become ledgendary around Durrus with no one safe from becoming a character in the school play. Speaking on behalf of the parents Maureen O'Donovan paid tribute to Mr. O'Driscoll's tremendous sense of fun in the classroom while also sending extremely well prepared pupils on to second level both academically and socially. Principal Michael Cronin thanked Mr. O'Driscoll for his wonderful service to Carrigboy and to the wider Durrus community and for all his help and support through the years. Mr. O'Driscoll was presented with a quilt decorated with photos of Sir's time in Carrigboy which was made by the children of 5th and 6th classes helped by Polly Green, Tara Chamberlain and Mary O'Brien. Polly also made a wonderfully decorated cake for Sir. Mr. O'Driscoll was also presented with gifts from the parents, staff and pupils and a crystal clock from the Board of Management presented by chairperson Finbarr O'Sullivan.
