We're Green!
We're Keen!
This motto sums up Carrigboy N.S' approach to our Environment. The school joined the Green Flag challenge in the Autumn of 2007. The first Module we had to achieve was the Litter reduction. We were tasked with the students and staff looking around the school environment and look for areas that we could improve our LITTER situation.
By Jan 2008 the pupils had identified the playground as an area that needed to improve most.
A committee with 2 elected representatives from each class was appointed and Miss Elaine, a classroom assistant, and Mrs Margaret O Dwyer ,a parent, and Mrs Paterson were asked to join us.
Committee litter count Jan 2008
After counting and graphing the litter count in that term we set fixed targets to improve the situation. A target list was set and each class Rep had to encourage their peers to join in.
Action Plan 1 for improving the Litter situation at Carrigboy N.S 2007-2008
To reduce our playground litter by 75% by Christmas 2008 (We will measure our success by counting the pieces of litter on a fortnightly basis)

The academic year 2009/2010 has seen the standards raised yet again. Not content with a 75% reduction the newly elected committee have challenged us all to a 90% reduction in playground litter. The committee made the decision together and had a big push on reducing lunchbox waste with a WASTE FREE LUNCHBOX challenge in Spring 2009.
